Most Subaru powered VW’s retain the VW dash instrumentation. Often extra, aftermarket gauges will be fitted too, or the VW gauges will need modifying to suit the VW engine.
An alternative, particularly in a T25 / Vanagon, is to fit the Subaru instrumentation. This involves moving the brake / clutch fluid reservoir to make space, and recalibrating the signal from the VSS to match your tyre sizes. More details coming soon.....
Unlike VW TDi engines, the subaru dash instrumentation is definitly NOT required with any factory fitted transponder key immobiliser system which up to 2003. We have never heard of any Subaru after 2003 having th dash as a part of the immobiliser system either, but don’t have enough experience with such late model engines to be able to say for certain.
