In general, we recommend you steer well clear of all non genuine Subaru thermostats. There are many designs which do not work properly, and can cause a lot of tricky to diagnose problems. Some of them are from brands who you’d expect better from too (unless the ones we’ve seen are fake). See our page on aftermarket thermostats for more details. This one is an exception though. It fits properly, and is an actual replica of the genuine Subaru part (rather than some other internals which the manufacturer claims to have made into a ‘Subaru’ thermostat), and behaved just like the genuine parts in our testing. Whether they last as long as genuine Subaru thermostats is unknown.
Unfortunately it’s manufacturer doesn’t do an equivalent for the Phase II engines.
